S.acid Plant Production Operations

SULFURIC ACID PLANT INSTALLATION

As Mektron Makina, we manufacture and assemble all processes from melting sulfur to producing 98.5% concentrated sulfuric acid. In general, sulfuric acid production consists of the following stages. In addition, electricity production is provided by converting the heat energy released in sulfuric acid plants into steam.

Sulfuric Acid is obtained as a result of the SO2 in the gas mixture formed as a result of the burning of melted and filtered liquid sulfur with dry air whose moisture and humidity have been removed with sulfuric acid in the sulfur incineration furnace, and is converted into SO3 in the contact tower and absorbed by sulfuric acid in the absorption towers. Sulfur, which becomes liquid by melting in the melting tank, is heated at 125-1450C and sent to the sulfur incineration furnace after filtration and perlite dosing.

In the sulfur burning furnace;

SO2 gases are obtained according to the S + O2 = SO2 + heat reaction. The concentration of the SO2 gases obtained is 9.5-11%, and the temperature of the gases leaving the furnace is approximately 1100 °C.

Then, gases containing SO2 gases that cool down to approximately 400-440 °C enter the contact tower and the gases containing SO2 are converted into SO3 gases according to the reaction equation below.

S02 + ½ O2 = S03 + heat

The reaction is exothermic and the gas temperature rises to 600oC at the contact tower outlet. The gases coming out of this stage are sent to the Superheater and cooled to 440oC. The cooled gases are sent to the contact tower again. At this stage, the reaction occurs again and 85% of the total SO2 is converted to SO3. The resulting SO3 gas mixture is passed through gas-gas exchangers and cooled to 190°C, which is the entrance temperature to the absorption tower.

l.The gas mixture containing SO3 gases is absorbed into the absorption tower by 98.5% concentrated sulfuric acid, and dilution water is supplied to the tower from the process water line to dilute the acid whose concentration increases. Inside each absorption tower, there is an acid distribution system and ceramic rashchig rings that allow the acid to spread to every part of the tower.
